USA — Colorado children are helping bring the holiday spirit to families who lost everything in the Black Forest Fire.

Last week a 12-year-old told her mother that instead of presents on her birthday she wanted to collect donations for fire victims. The donations went to a new group called “Helping Everyone Recover,” another idea that came from a child.

“My friends lost their home and they were really nice and I wanted to do something. We started by taking donations in our garage and then we needed somewhere else to go, so we came to this building and then we moved to a different one” said Mackenzie Garcia, who is helping fire victims.

Both girls helped unpack boxes of presents, including Christmas blankets and ornaments.

More than 50 families registered to help out people affected by the Black Forest Fire.
