South Africa — City Power was experiencing a major power outage in the south and south west of Johannesburg as a result of a veld fire under transmission lines between Fordsburg and Orlando on Thursday evening.

The technical team had begun restoring power to the affected areas, said City Power’s spokesman Hloni Motloung.

“We anticipate that electricity supply will be fully restored within the next three hours.”

The affected areas included Lenasia, Eldorado Park, Nancefield, Mondeor, Mulberton, Auckland park, Mayfair, Westdene, Crosby, Sophiatown, Newlands and Northcliff.

City Power apologised to its customers for the inconvenience.
