Australia– A Victorian Government report says Gippsland can expect an increase in extreme weather events over the next 30 years.
Temperatures in Victoria are predicted increase by more than one degrees Celsius by 2030.
By 2070, it could be more than four degrees warmer.
That means less rain and snow in winter and overall, more flooding, coastal erosion, storm tide events and bushfire.
The projections are detailed in the Victorian Government’s draft Gippsland Regional Growth Plan, a document that will guide land use and infrastructure planning.
The report says Gippsland could find opportunities in the long-term changes to climate, including new agricultural crops, an expanded timber industry, developing new products to adapt to climate change and an increase in fisheries production.
Public submissions on the plan close on Friday.
