Redding firefighter dies responding to brush fire

USA — REDDING, Conn. Fire officials say a former Redding fire chief and veteran firefighter has died while responding to a brush fire.
The News Times reports (http://bit.ly/J0Iosp) that Lt. G. Marshall Sanford, who had 50 years’ experience, died Sunday night.
A spokesman for the Redding Volunteer Fire and EMS Company No. 1 said Sanford collapsed and died of an undetermined medical issue as he hauled equipment to the scene of the fire.
He was 67.
No additional information about his death was immediately available.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman offered their condolences on Monday.
Flags at the Capitol will be lowered during Sanford’s funeral. Plans for the funeral have not been announced.
