Australia — THE Federal Government has unveiled its latest tool in the fight against people who deliberately light bushfires.
Emergency Management Minister Robert McClelland today launched a website that shows people how to report suspicious activity and how to identify fire risks.
Mr McClelland says there is a need to engage with communities.
“It is the communities that know where the vulnerabilities are in their local areas, those areas which are prone to fires,” he said in Canberra.
“It’s the communities that can identify suspicious conduct.”
The website tells people who to contact if they have specific concerns.
Last summer’s floods means Australia is expecting the worst grassfire season in 40 years, particularly in the southeast, Mr McClelland said.
That means it is vital that people prepare for fires.
