Israel — Firefighters succeeded in controlling a fire that began in the Ein Tina nature reserve and subsequently spread to Nahal Gilabon in the Golan Heights on Friday.

A number of firefighting crews as well as firefighting planes battled the blaze, estimated to have burned 10,000 dunams of land.Nearby Highway 91 was reopened to traffic after having been closed to prevent people from entering the nature reserve area. The entrance to Nahal Gilabon remained closed.

The fire broke out in the Ein Tina nature reserve on Thursday. Three female hikers were slightly injured from smoke inhalation. Dozens of tourists were evacuated from the reserve.

An additional fire broke out earlier Thursday afternoon in the northern Galilee on Mount Meron. Three firefighting crews and two airplanes successfully put out that blaze. No injuries were reported, but forty dunams of land were destroyed in the fire.
