Canada — EDMONTON — The worst forest fire in 30 years in Alberta grew larger Wednesday.

Alberta Sustainable Resource Development lists the fire — 65 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alta. — at just under 306,000 hectares, an increase of more than 20,000 hectares from the day before.

Workers at Imperial Oil’s Kearl site near the southeast area of the fire were still on the job Wednesday, a company spokesman said.

The second-biggest fire in the province is an 85,000-hectare fire in the Slave Lake, Alta., district.

There are 92 wildfires burning.
