USA — Two firefighters were injured Friday while fighting a wildfire along the Mexican border, according to the Coronado National Forest.

The firefighters were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the news release said. One was released from the hospital and the other was being treated for first- and second-degree burns.

They were battling the Bull Fire, which is burning about five miles west of Nogales in the Nogales Ranger District of the national forest.

No further information about their injuries was available.

The fire had burned about 4,500 acres, mostly in Mexico. About 600 acres had burned in Arizona.

There were 150 firefighters and other personnel fighting the blaze, including two hotshot crews and one state forestry crew.

Authorities were using various aircraft to battle the blaze, including a heavy air tanker, three air attack planes, a lead plane and two helicopters.

The fire has become increasingly active on the Arizona side of the border. Firefighters are “working to tie the Bull Fire into the Peña Fire … to extend the black area and minimize further growth,” Peterson said.

The Peña Fire burned in the same area in March.
