USA — An elderly Buxton man who suffered severe burns in a grass fire yesterday has died. Authorities say Frank Hebert, 85, was burning grass on a steep embankment behind his house yesterday afternoon when his clothes caught fire.
Hebert, who sustained burns to 70 percent of his body, died early this morning at a Portland hospital, according to the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
A Buxton firefighter was also injured trying to douse the flames on Hebert’s clothes. Jeremy Redlon, 38, suffered cuts and burns to both hands.
Neighbors told authorities that Hebert burned the grass around his house every spring. The fire burned about half an acre.
