Cuba / Brazil  — Cuba and Brazil are developing a project to prevent forest fires and minimize damages by using satellite observation, a service that will be provided to the island by the South American country.

According to a Cubavision Internacional report, the technology will allow the rapid response of forest rangers and fire brigades.

With the required equipment in Cuba and the collaboration of the Space Services Center of Brazil, which will make it possible to keep hot sites in the island under constant watch, forest fires in Cuba are expected to decrease.

However, Cuban Fire Department’s authorities insist on the importance of taking prevention measure that could guarantee the safety of the people and reduce the number of forest fires which have such a negative impact on the ecosystem and the country’s economy, said Cubavision Internacional.
