South Africa — A massive veld fire in Ceres on the eastern slopes of the Skurweberg was raging out of control on Thursday morning.
Fire teams have already managed to extinguish a fire on the opposite side of the mountain.
Winelands fire chief Danie Wilds said almost 1,000 hectares have already been devastated.
We have ground teams on the fire line and were using two helicopters at this stage. At the moment we have about 25 fighters and there are 66 ground team members assisting, he said.
