Ghana — Mr. Evans Osei-Worae, Nkoranza South District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has said any group of people found hunting would bed prosecuted.

Mr. Osei-Worae told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that it was unfortunate in spite of educational campaigns against bushfires, some unscrupulous people had been burning grass for game and in the process destroyed people’s farms and other properties.

He expressed concern about how some youth from Techiman travelled with their dogs to hunt in some parts of Nkoranza.

Such youth have for the past three years been undertaking such exercises in Nkoranza and have refused to adhere to all advice and instructions given them, he said.

Mr. Osei-Worae said NADMO would liaise with the District Police Command and the District Fire Office towards the formation of task force to track the activities of the group hunters and arrest them to face the necessary punishment.

He urged Assembly Members, Unit Committees and traditional authorities to ensure people did not hunt in their areas to cause bushfires.

He called on local fire volunteers to redouble efforts and help combat bushfires in the communities.
