Australia — The fire burnt through 2,000 hectares of land, destroying nine homes, several sheds, fences and livestock.

The shire’s Steve Cleaver says most residents have now met insurance assessors.

He says the community is now undertaking a massive clean-up.

“They’re emotionally very drained but they’re also very impressed by the community response and the offers for assistance,” he said.

“I’m sure they’ve got mixed feelings, some people too are only just starting to come out now. Some of them have found it very traumatic.”

Some residents say they cannot get anyone to assess the damage to their properties.

Mr Cleaver says some insurance companies have not had staff available because they have been sent to inspect flood damage in Carnarvon and Queensland.

“I think some of the insurance companies have been a bit overwhelmed so there’s a bit of a slower response with assessors,” he said.
