USA — Two Blackhawk helicopters circled in the azure sky, dipping below reddish-brown tree lines, scooping water from a small, calm lake and dropping the loads on a hot spot in Camp Atterbury to extinguish a troublesome fire Friday.
For about three weeks, Camp Atterbury has been dealing with fires in its impact zone, a section of the post that contains unexploded ordnances and is used for training by soldiers heading to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The latest fire, which started Tuesday, has posed problems because of the lingering smoke and smell, which has bothered some residents in nearby communities such as Edinburgh, Taylorsville and Nineveh.
