Australia —  The Premier’s department is hoping to negotiate a settlement for uninsured victims of the Toodyay bushfires, when it meets Western Power’s British insurers this week.

Thirty eight homes were destroyed when the fire tore through the Avon Valley town in last December.

The Fire and Emergency Services and EnergySafety have conducted reports which found the most likely cause of the blaze was a rotten power pole which fell over and ignited stubble.

But, Western Power maintains it is not liable.

The Premier Colin Barnett plans to meet the insurers.
