Pakistan — A bush fire that erupted Wednesday noon at Sinyari Darra and Kaleenjar villages on Margalla Hills, situated behind the Naval and Air Headquarters, continued to destroy flora and fauna across a vast area in the protected zone of Margalla Hills National Park on Thursday.

The flames of fire were visible from a quite distance. It continued spreading further as authorities failed to control it.

In the past, there had been incidents of fire, which allegedly people, especially those residing in Sinyari Darra and Kaleenjar villages ignited to cover up the timber theft.

Spokesman for Capital Development Authority Ramzan Sajid said CDA management had controlled major part of the fire near the villages Sinyari Darra and Kaleenjar. “Our team extinguished the fire twice, once on Wednesday and again on Thursday, but the winds again escalated the flames and continued to spread it,” he said.

Sajid said fire on a very small portion over the hill near Faisal Mosque, E-9 was left to be extinguished. “Over 300 firefighters deputed over the hills have succeeded to control fire in most of the affected area,” he said.

Sajid, however ruled out possibility of timber theft, saying it was not possible for anyone to cut the trees under the tight ban by the authority.
