USA — A small brush fire that may have been caused by a remote-controlled model plane that crashed and burned was extinguished in less than 30 minutes within the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area, fire officials said today.

The fire was reported at 12:37 p.m. at Woodley Avenue and Burbank Boulevard. Firefighters arrived to find a one-half acre of grass and light brush burning, said Los Angeles fire spokesman Cecil Manresa.

Winds were light in the area and three helicopters were called in to make water drops, Manresa said.

The fire was knocked down at 1:06 p.m.

“They didn’t give an exact cause but there was a model airplane that had crashed in the vicinity,” Manresa said.

Fire officials continue to investigate, he said.

He said no structures were threatened and no one was injured.
