South Africa — A woman died while trying to extinguish a veld fire in Willowvale on Sunday, Eastern Cape police said.
Captain Jackson Manatha the fire began at around 4pm.
People from the Xonyeni village tried to extinguish it by themselves when a woman’s dress caught fire.
She burned to death.
The fire destroyed a number of homesteads in the area.
An inquest docket into the death of the woman has been opened.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
