India — One person was burnt alive in a forest fire inAlmora district, taking the total number of those killed in such incidents this year to 12, official sources said here today.

The incident took place last evening inHarara village nearRanikhet whenRamesh Ram (26) noticed the fire that was close to where his goats were grazing. As he ran to save the goats, he got engulfed in flames and died on the spot, they said.

Since Mar-Apr this year, forest fires have wrecked havoc in the hill state, with more than 3,500 hectares of forests area being destroyed in over 1,400 incidents of fire reported so far.

Although the pre-monsoon showers gave a pause to such incidents, fresh incidents have been reported due to rising temperature.Chief Minister B CKhanduri has asked the forest authorities to take appropriate action to prevent further fires of this nature.
