USA — A state of emergency has been delcared in one county in South Carolina, as a bush fire has spread and destroyed thousands of hectares, reports The Associated Press.

Gov. Mark Sanford declared the state of emergency in Horry County where the fire has burned thousands of hectares near one of the state’s busiest tourist areas, reports The AP.

He said the blaze has destroyed dozens of homes and consumed 6,000 hectares, nearly double earlier estimates.

No injuries have been reported.

About 2,500 people have been evacuated, mostly in the Barefoot Landing area near North Myrtle Beach.
