Forest fire disrupts power supply, rail services

India — Another forest fire broke out in the Nilgiris district on Tuesday night, damaging an electricity tower and disrupting power supply in Gudalur area.
Bamboo trees caught fire at Thorapalli near Gudalur area, spread across the bushes and damaged a high tension (HT) electric tower of power 66KA, cutting off four feeder wires, on Tuesday.
The damaged three electric feeders were rectified on Tuesday night andpower supply was restored in some areas.
Work is in progress to restore the fourth damaged feeder cable and power supply is likely to be restored completely on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, the Nilgiris Mountain Railway services too have come to a halt as forest fire damaged the rail sleepers. The train services between Mettupalayam and Coonoor will be restored only on 7 March, Southern Railway officials said.
