Greece — A large wildfire broke out οn Saturday afternoon in remote forested area between the villages of Megaplatanos and Goulemi in the central Greece prefecture of Fthiotida. The fire apparently began next to a rural road and spread quickly due to the strong winds blowing in the area, creating a front of about 400 metres in length when it reached a stand of pine trees.

The blaze is now being fought by two small water-bombing aircraft from Lamia airstrip and a helicopter, while for fire brigade vehicles from nearby Atalanti are on the ground, reinforced by another six fire engines being sent from surrounding areas. The nearest residences are currently two kilometres from the site of the fire.
