RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) A combination of smoke and heat were predicted to plague eastern North Carolina for a second day on Friday, as a wildfire continued to spread and temperatures edged closer to the 100-degree mark.
Smoke from the wildfire in the Pocosin Lakes NationalWildlife Refuge was being pushed inland by a light wind out of the east andsoutheast. The National Weather Service issued a dense smoke advisory for thecoastal plain and as far west as Vance and Granville counties in the northeastpiedmont.
The smoke advisory was in effect until 9 a.m.
As for the heat, the weather service issued another heatadvisory for much of the eastern half of the state as high temperatures wereexpected to hit the upper 90s. Combined with high humidity, heat indices in theregion were predicted to reach 105.
