Spain — More than 12,000 people were forced to leave their homes in thewildfires which hit the islands this summer
A Level 1 alert has been called on the northern part of Gran Canaria, where, onThursday evening, a forest fire broke out in Moya, 25 kilometres from LasPalmas.

It affects the area of Loma de Morca, also known as Lomo Los Pajaritos, withreports that four homes had been evacuated, and fuel stored in the area,aggravating the problem. It is a relatively unpopulated area, however.
The wildfires on the islands this summer affected more than 27,000 hectares andforced more than 12,000 people from their homes. They were described by theInterior Minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, as an ecological catastrophe.
