SIMFEROPOL, (RIA Novosti) – A man and a woman have been found dead in their car after a fire swept the Alupka forestry on the southern coast of Ukraine’s Crimea Peninsula, the press office of the Crimean government said Sunday.

The blaze, believed to have been started by a tourist from Kharkov, eastern Ukraine, who lost his whereabouts in the forest and decided to make a fire to give an emergency signal, is raging on an area of more than 50 hectares, the press office said.

More than 800 people, including personnel from Ukraine’s emergencies ministry, army and navy, are involved in the efforts to extinguish the fire. However, abrupt winds are hindering these efforts, the press office said.
