California,USA: — Ahuge wildfire in California’s Los Padres National Forest has grown to 38,000acres and has forced hundreds out of rural homes and campgrounds.
Themonth-old fire in northern Santa Barbara County is burning through heavyvegetation. It’s sending smoke and ash to the cities of Santa Barbara andMontecito.
Insouthwestern Montana, 25 houses threatened by a 24,000 acre wind-whipped firewere ordered evacuated. Other residents north of Helena who fled a49-square-mile blaze have been allowed to return to their homes.
InWashington state, at least 400 firefighters were deployed to battle the nearly500-acre blaze sparked by Thursday’s helicopter crash in the Cascades.
