Bor, Pirot, Serbia — A new fire broke out in a village near Pirot yesterdaywhile 50 acres of forest are still burning in the Stara mountain range.

Also, at Black Peak near Bor, a fire has engulfed 50 acres of forest during thelast 24 hours.

The fire is burning on the territory of the village of Brestovac, but thecommander of the Bor firefighter brigade Miodrag Marković said that withhelp from the police and citizens, the fires have been localized.

However, on the other side of the village, the blaze has spread into thevillage of Mali Krivelj which is closer to the Black Peak summit.

Some 500 men are currently employed in the region battling the disaster, while2,500 are on stand-by, officials told Beta.

A Russian plane is expected to land at the Niš airport this morning, toimmediately be employed in putting out numerous fires in the area.

Dry weather and record temperatures that are today forecast to reach 43 degreesCelsius in much of the country are fueling the fires.
