Land owners in the Top End are being warned to implement fire breaks on their properties or risk heavy fines.

The Bushfires N-T director Steve Sutton says heavy wet season rains have significantly increased fuel loads.

Mr Sutton says its important owners reduce any potential fire hazards.

“It provides access for our firefighters both volunteers and our staff who want to get in to extinguish a fire that might be threatening property,” he said.

“People can really help themselves by making sure they have some good access trails around their property.”
