Australia — Fire authorities say a bushfire burning in the New South Walesalpine region is now unlikely to reach the Thredbo ski village.
The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has downgraded thethreat to Thredbo, saying air moisture and attention to spot fires has kept thefire 12 kilometres from the village.
But, conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon, with north-westerly wind gusts of up to 70 kilometres an hour, fuelled bytemperatures in the mid 30s.
Incident controller Dave Darlington says the next 30hours are critical, with rain forecast tomorrow hoped to ease conditions.
