Australia — The Rural Fire Service (RFS) in New South Wales says a fire burningin the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, could take several days to extinguish.

The blaze has already destroyed almost 3,000 hectares ofbushland and continues to burn in a remote area west of Nattai.

No property is under threat.

But the fire is near the Warragamba catchment area, whichsupplies 80 per cent of Sydney’s water.

There are fears debris and ash could block the filtrationsystem at the Warragamba dam.

Firefighters will be winched in again today to continuebackburning and setting up containment lines.
