VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With this long, hot dry spell, the urban forest fire hazard is back up at extreme and so is the concern for Stanley Park.  People are being asked not to smoke here and barbeques fueled by charcoal are banned.  Park Board is ready to evict squatters to reduce the risk but it’s difficult for crews to get to squatter camps because they’re so deep into the woods.  Two of the three fires sparked here this month are blamed on the people living in the park.  The Park Board says it recognizes the social concerns and is sensitive to the homelessness issue but insists the park’s safety is a priority.  Fire crews warn a single spark could send the city’s crown jewel up in smoke.
