Dry, hot weather has led to a second fire within two days on Signal Hill.

The blaze, above the Deutsche Schule near Tamboerskloof, was spotted at about 10.30am on Tuesday by Table Mountain National Park staff who were putting out a fire which had started late last night on Devil’s Peak.

The park dispatched a helicopter to waterbomb the fire and called the Cape Town central fire department.

A second helicopter from Newlands Forestry was also dispatched.

Three fire engines are on the Cape Town side of the hill and five are on standby on the Sea Point side in case it spreads.

Alan Weston, divisional officer of Cape Town Fire and Rescue, said they did not know what the cause of the fire was, but no property was in danger.

On Monday a fire also broke out just above the Deutsche Schule, but was brought under control within a few hours.
