12 firefightersand crew die in helicopter crash in Yamalo-Nenets Region

A crew of forest fire fighters, the pilot observer and three pilots, totalling 12 persons, died in a helicopter crash on 5 August 2004 in Yamalo-Nenets Region, Russian Federation. The MI-8 helicopter went down at 11:27 in the morning of Thursday. The crew belonged to the Aerial Forest Fire and Deer pasture Protection Committee of Yamalo-Nenets Region established more than 10 years ago. The cause of the accident is investigated. There are indications of an engine failure.
