Spring has brought forest fires back to Russia’s Far East, where more than 1,600 hectares of taiga are engulfed in flames, the regional center of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations said on Friday.
Some 14,000 hectares of taiga are on fire in the Jewish Autonomous District while new wildfires have been spotted in Khabarovsk and Amur regions.
The Khabarovsk administration said that over the past three years wildfires have caused the total damage of four billion Rubles to the region burning down about 2.5 million hectares of forests.
And of course, like a year before, the administration complains that poor financing leaves the region unprotected before the element. The debt of the federal budget to local aviation companies has reached more than eight million Rubles, plus four million Rubles of debts to the regional committee for natural resources for its participation in last year’s fighting wildfires, said Vladimir Kolomytsev, deputy chairman of the committee.
