Russia:All Forest Fires in Russia Maritime Region Put Out (ITAR-TASS News Agency, October 25, 2001)
By Yelena Osokina Vladivostok — All the forest fires, that have been raging in Russia’s Maritime region since early October, have been put out, sources at the local forestry service told Itar-Tass on Monday.
The peak of the fires was registered on October 15, when a total of 9,000 hectares of taiga and forests were engulfed in flames. More than 250 people have taken part in putting out forest fires.
On Thursday, a Mi-2 helicopter will pick up the fire-fighting units remaining in the area. From Friday on, two helicopters will daily patrol the areas where dry wood and grass may still flare up
