Australia — Abody has been found in a house gutted by a bush fire south of Adelaide.

The person was an occupant of the house destroyed by the blaze at Willunga, which started about 10.30pm Wednesday, a police spokesman said.

The remains were discovered during a search by police.

“The identity of the person has not been established,” the policespokesman said.

The bush fire destroyed about 15 hectares of grass and scrub, along with thehome, between Delabole and Bangor roads at Willunga South.

About 125 firefighters took about two and a half hours to contain the bushfire, the Country Fire Service said.

The deceased person was an occupant of a house on Delabole Road, the policespokesman said.

The cause of the blaze was not considered suspicious.

Meanwhile, fire crews hope a bush fire will pass through the southern NSWtown of Thredbo before predicted extreme weather conditions make the blaze evenmore difficult to manage.

The fire which started in Victoria, swept over the border near the NSW resorttown of Thredbo on Wednesday, forcing the evacuation of more than 700 tourists.

The fire front remains about 12 kilometres from the town, with overnight
rain lowering fire activity, Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokeswoman Rebel Talbertsaid.

The wet conditions, lower temperatures and light winds meant the threat toThredbo had eased somewhat.

However, the weather has also prevented fire crews from carrying outbackburning operations.

“It’s a double edged sword, because it has slowed the progression of thefire,” Talbert said.

“It means we have had more time to get prepared, but now we’re very wellprepared and we’d ideally like to see the fire move through under calmerconditions.”

Talbert said there was the possibility of extreme fire danger in the Thredboregion this Saturday and Sunday.

“We’re hoping the fire will pass through the village of Thredbo beforethat weather comes,” she said.

The fire has burnt out around 4,600 hectares in NSW and Victoria, and is infairly inaccessible terrain.

Fire crews are working on the blaze where possible, while aircraft arewaterbombing the area to try to prevent the fire spreading.

Kosciuszko National Park is closed to all visitors south of the SnowyMountains Highway and east of the Cabramurra/Khancoban Road.

The Alpine Way is closed from Entry Station to Khancoban.
