6th International Wildland Fire Conference

12-16 October 2015, Pyeongchang, Gangwon, Republic of Korea

For the preservation and sustainable use of the world’s environment, all stakeholders involved in wildland fire management and its related fields such as forestry, climate and meteorology, ecosystem, disaster and security, and human health will take part in the Conference. The participants will share knowledge and experience of fire management methodology and look for the strategy for further enhancement of international cooperation.

The 6th International Wildland Fire Conference will be held at the Alpensia Resort, Pyeongchang, Gangwon, Korea, 12-16 October 2015. The conference is the 6th in a series that was initiated in 1989 (cf. below).

Conference Theme: Fire of the Past, Fire in Future

The conference will address:

  • Global natural and cultural fire heritage

  • Protecting the global natural and cultural heritage from fire

  • Towards a cohesive global fire management strategy

Objectives

  • Provide a forum for fire management leaders, policy makers, professionals, researchers and practitioners worldwide to discuss critical fire issues affecting communities, resources and ecosystems and work co-operatively on the development of a global wildland fire management strategy.

  • Strengthen the effectiveness of the Regional Wildland Fire Networks and support their links into the UNISDR Global Wildland Fire Network.

  • Strengthen international cooperation and exchange of information, knowledge, expertise, and resources in Fire Management and its social, economic and environmental implications.

  • Provide a platform for the fire management industry, research organizations and fire specialists to display innovative technologies, products and methods for wildland fire management, as well as interact with the conference participants.
