Introduction

Following the tradition of the series of international forest fire research conferences organized by Tomsk State University the 2005 conference will provide a forum for presenting papers and discussion on the following topics:

  • General physical and mathematical models of wildland fires
  • General mathematical model of peat fires
  • Experiments for model validation
  • Forest fires and turbulent flows in the atmosphere
  • Chemical reactions and turbulences caused by wildland fires
  • Database and particular mathematical models
  • Mathematical and physical modelling of wildland fires and their effects at the wildland-structural interface
  • Behaviour of surface, crown and mass forest fires and their effect on structures at the wildland-residential interface
  • Predicting wildland fire danger forest and steppe ecosystems using general mathematical models, and aerial and spaceborne monitoring systems
  • Conditions limiting the initiation and spread of wildland fires
  • New strategic and technical fire suppression methods
  • Wildfire prevention in the steppes of Russia and Mongolia: Current state and perspectives

Associated Consultation of the Regional Central Asia Wildland Fire Network

On 8 September 2005 a one-day meeting of the Regional Central Asia Wildland Fire Network will be held. Participants from Central Asian countries, notably Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and parts of the Russian Federation will:

  • reporting about the wildland fire situation in their countries
  • discuss mechanisms of regional cooperation in wildland fire science
  • prepare recommendations for bi-lateral and multilateral agreements of cooperation in wildland fire management and emergency response
  • prepare recommendations for capacity building involving neighbouring countries

The consultation will be chaired by the Global Fire Monitoring Center (J.G. Goldammer).

Joint Conference Programme

The joint programme of the scientific conference and the regional consultation will include

  • Scientific presentations
  • Scientific Round Tables for discussion
  • Exhibition and sale of computer programs and methods
  • Presentations of country representatives of the Central Asia Region
  • Discussion forum on policy recommendation for regional cooperation in in wildland fire research and management

Abstracts:

Abstracts (in English ) must be submitted to Prof. A.M. Grishin by mail, fax or e-mail and include the title of the report and the name of the author(s). In the case of using postal mail the abstract should be typed single-sided and single-spaced on 210´297 mm (A4) white paper with 20 mm margins, using one-column format, Times New Roman 14 pt font.
