Regional Northeast Asia Wildland Fire Network
A Region of the Global Wildland Fire Network
Introduction
On 6 March 2004 the Korean Forest Research Institute (KFRI), the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) together with a group of forest fire specialists from China, Republic of Korea, Japan and Russia founded the Regional Northeast Asia Wildland Fire Network. The network is one of six networks within the region of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN-ECE) (see also: UNECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Forest Fire) and one of four networks within the region of the Pan-Asia Wildland Fire Network founded in 2009. It was decided that the network will be coordinated by KFRI.
